I’ve always been incredibly curious.
I want to know the answers, whether it’s as complex as a person’s life story or something a little more simple like whether you can drink cocktails and still lose weight. I’m always looking to learn as much as I can. Especially when it comes to health, wellness, and beauty, I’m very curious about what’s new and what really works.
The truth is I don’t really have it all figured out. I am lucky enough to know all kinds of health experts: doctors, chiropractors, health coaches, and more, each one with their own ideas on how to be well.
Try Paleo, bone broth, Keto, Atkins, alkaline, intermittent fasting, or Weight Watchers. Do a cleanse, they say, or a detox. Or, maybe it’s your gut that needs repair? Ahhh the noise!
What I’ve realized after trying it all is that different things work for different people, and we should always be willing to ask questions and continue learning. Variety matters, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. So, as I pen my first article for Charlotte’s Book (yes, with a real pen in hand) I hope to learn from others as I share my never-ending exploration of all things beauty, health, and lifestyle.
Right now, my journey is my own and I am learning what works for me. After years of flip-flopping between modalities, I’m happy to have a team of experts to help teach me about what’s right for my body, my hormones and my metabolism—not someone else’s. This team includes a trainer, a nutritionist who specializes in psychology, and a doctor to help me manage my hormones. Over time, I’ve pretty much killed my metabolism from trying to do too many of the diets and eating styles mentioned above and now, I’m simply listening to what my body needs. I’m not looking for quick fixes. I’m focused on the long-term.
I have even started studying at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to become a certified health coach. No, I don’t have plans to practice, but I love learning all about the complexity of the body and our bio-individuality. Even though health and wellness are all-encompassing and require a lot of work and dedication, it is time well-spent. I’m excited to share what I’ve learned so far.
As we all know, most of our health and wellness tips don’t come from professionals or experts with fool-proof methods. Some of the best beauty advice comes from our girlfriends and the people around us. Whether I’m trading beauty tips with my rockstar friend over texts or swapping wellness advice and recommending our favorite doctors over a lunch, it’s my friends who give me the best insider secrets.
I want this column to be just like that. Think of your coolest, most tapped-in friend who has the best recommendations and is always up for trying something new. What new product would she be reading about or dying to get her hands on? Let’s share our best tips with each other. I want to hear from you. Learning never stops. The more we share and learn from each other, the more we grow.
Ready for a beauty evolution? Stay tuned.
