The Organic Pharmacy has long been a go-to in London for discriminating best-self seekers who prefer an organic approach to their skincare regimen and overall wellness. When the first U.S. pharmacy opened in Beverly Hills a few years back, it was an instant smash and is still a hot spot for glow-conscious celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Naomi Watts, Demi Moore and Michelle Pfeiffer, to name only a few. Now, stressed-out, over-scheduled New Yorkers can get a taste of The Organic Pharmacy way of life. The new boutique, located at 353 Bleecker Street, is stocked with over 400 organic goodies, from pharmaceutical grade herbal tinctures (a growing trend, we’re noticing) and detox kits to nourishing baby products, natural makeup and cutting-edge anti-aging elixirs. For example, the new Gene Expression Lifting Serum, $330, contains antioxidants, vitamins, peptides, sea algae, stem cells, growth factors, lifting herbs, hyaluronic acid, and a one-of-a-kind natural, non-irritating version of retinol, that all work to slow down the aging process of the genes in your cells, while lifting and plumping your skin.
Nestled in the back of the boutique behind a panel screen is a comfortable treatment table for “express” spa services, which are abbreviated versions of their most popular facials offered in the bigger spas located in London and L.A. I tried their most popular service and a celebrity favorite: The Rose Crystal Lymphatic Facial, $75. While there was no door to totally shut me off from the outer world, the scents, textures and facial massage techniques were all consuming, making me quite willingly to let go of the here and now. The service began with lavender-infused deep breathing exercises, followed by a deep cleansing with their best-selling Carrot Butter Cleanser, $74, an oil-based (jojoba oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, carrot oil) cleansing balm that melts into your skin, binding to and removing grime, dirt, dead skin and makeup. It also has rosemary and lavender, which is just as soothing to your skin as the scent is to your soul. After that, a few different masks were applied—Rosehip, Seaweed, Honey & Jasmine, and Collagen—and I received another heavenly skin-firming facial massage using a rose quartz stone to boost lymphatic drainage and contour facial muscles. At the end of the 40-minute treatment, my skin was glowing and felt noticeably more energized and firm. Despite a few extractions, my skin wasn’t red, just glowing.
In an age where we are increasingly aware of not only what we put in our body, but also what goes on top of our skin, The Organic Pharmacy is a safe zone for mindful shoppers. Even though the skin treatments aren’t very private, the results are well worth the trip downtown and are a great way to experience all they have to offer, while receiving expert recommendations of which products are best for your personal concerns. The next treatment I want to try: A one-on-one Health Assessment, $200, with their head homeopath, which involves using a BioEnergetic device that scans your body in three minutes to asses organ function, toxicity, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, hormone balance, immune function, body oxygenation, digestive disorders and stress. This is no doubt the perfect wellness service to try before the new year to help one prioritize their 2015 resolutions.
