Nutrition consulting is an integrated approach towards helping you understand your relationship with food and discover what type of diet works best for your body and why, and how to incorporate healthier practices, such as diet and exercise, into your lifestyle. Whether you have a serious health condition or you want to lose weight, a one-on-one consultation with a trusted nutrition counselor will help you determine and execute an effective strategy for overcoming dietary challenges and improve your health and well-being.
Nutrition consulting is for anyone who would like to improve his or her health and overall well-being by implementing a healthier diet and outlook on food according to specific needs and goals.
During nutrition consulting, you will first be asked to give (either written or orally) information for the counselor to make a complete medical and nutrition assessment. You may also be asked a series of questions so that the nutrition counselor can understand your personal and lifestyle goals and best help you recognize unhealthy behaviors. In some cases, depending on the type of counseling you are seeking, you may be given a health screening or physical exam. The majority of nutrition consulting sessions consists of interpersonal coaching and interactive dialog.
Nutrition consulting sessions may take 60 to 90 minutes.
$150 – $400 for initial consultations.
To understand how any changes in your lifestyle and diet may affect you, it is best to consult with a certified nutritionist or doctor.
Results from nutrition consulting rely heavily on a person’s commitment to follow the plan designed by the nutrition counselor. Healthier changes in a person’s diet and lifestyle often result in improved health, wellness, and appearance in relation to the level and duration of changes being implemented.
An optimal course of nutrition consulting is subjective to a person’s specific needs and goals and can be best determined upon a personalized nutrition and wellness assessment.
Only a Registered Dietitian (RN) or Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) should provide you with nutrition consulting on a clinical level; however, there are holistic nutritionists as well in The Book. There is currently no gold-standard board that certifies holistic practitioners or nutritionists; therefore, qualification is subjective based on education, experience, and client satisfaction.
