Every product that makes it through the judgement phase and onto your skin is part of a well-considered balance: whether sensitive, oily, dry, wrinkling, or fresh as a daisy, the skin can only take so much.
And because skin health = beauty, we’re starting to think of makeup as working with our skincare routine, not just as something we need to strip off every night. New breakthrough products (BB, CC creams) are fusing skincare with makeup, and ultimately changing the way we feel about our foundation—for the better.
These hybrid products pack all the skin-loving ingredients needed to treat, not just cover, our biggest beauty ailments while giving our faces a flawless finish. But they’re not all perfect, so Charlotte’s Book tested the best and came up with seven fusion products we love.
1. The Anti-Acne and Anti-Aging Formula
CoverFX BB Gel Mattifying Anti-Blemish Treatment , $45 —Say bye-bye to blemishes and shine! This BB gel contains salicylic acid and thyme, which work to zap zits while the EVERMAT™ complex keeps oil production and shine at bay. Laponite™ mattifies skin and acts as a natural clay, helping to retain water and boost overall moisture. Vitamin C and E protect against premature aging and promote skin elasticity. If that wasn’t enough, this BB Gel is also paraben, sulfate and phthalate free. High color pigmentation in the product means just a little goes a long way. Cover FX’s BB Gel is the answer for any acne sufferer.
2. The Anti-Aging Glow-Getter
Dr. Perricone No Makeup Makeup Line, $35-$60 —At the forefront skincare-meets-makeup technology is Dr. Perricone’s No Makeup Skincare. We reported on this breakthrough when it hit the market last year, and we’re still obsessed. Dr. Perricone’s No Makeup Skincare provides coverage and color but is infused with his signature anti-aging and skincare ingredients. The “makeup” is just enough to give you that extra boost. No Blush Blush and No Foundation Foundation are all geared primarily at perfecting your skin while giving you enough makeup to get you glowing.
3. The Brightening Korean Import
Dr. Jart BB Radiance Beauty Balm, $36 —A buildable coverage formula that brightens, hydrates, and firms, Dr. Jart Beauty Balm is beneficial to skin in a multitude of ways. Snow lotus and vitamin tree fruit (baobab) brighten, SPF 30 provides ample sun protection while radiance capsules help to even skin tone and boost luminosity. However, the do-it-all formula isn’t ideal for darker complexions as it only comes in one fair shade.
4. The Celeb Favorite
SK-II Facial Treatment Cream Foundation, $109 —A favorite of Kate Bosworth and Cate Blanchett, skincare specialist SK-II is renowned for high-quality products. It’s not surprising that their treatment foundation offers some seriously skin-loving ingredients. This formula is packed with Pitera™, a liquid rich in vitamins, amino acids, organic acids and minerals which is proven to make skin clearer, firmer and more radiant. SPF 20 offers a substantial amount of sun protection. The medium coverage makeup gives skin a dewy airbrushed finish that is simply fantastic. As you can see, this all comes at a hefty price.
5. The Multi Function Foundation
Ren Satin Perfection BB Cream , $38 —Ren BB cream might as well be one-stop shopping. The full coverage formula banishes blemishes, offers SPF protection and anti-aging benefits. Photo-rejuvenation technology helps fix the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, not to mention, the silicone-free formula leaves our skin looking flawless. Amen to satin perfection!
6. The Hydration Booster With Full Coverage
Too Faced Born This Way Foundation, $44 —Too Faced’s new formula is almost too good to be true. This medium to full coverage foundation offers a flawless finish with added skin-soothing benefits. Coconut water in the formula works to replenish skin’s moisture levels (perfect for thirsty winter skin) while alpine rose brightens skin and boosts elasticity. Hyaluronic acid offers anti-aging benefits.
7. The Lightweight Antioxidant Booster
Urban Decay Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup, $40 —The company that built a cult following for their Naked eyeshadow palettes is following up with a take two: Naked foundation. The fan-favorite formula is lightweight, longwearing and packed with light diffusers that give skin a naturally luminous finish (perfect for anyone going for the “no makeup” makeup look). The product is also packed with a powerful anti-wrinkle peptide (Matrixyl 3000) and antioxidant green tea, making it a true skin savior. Plus, we absolutely swoon over the sleek packaging.
