Kuen Rameson Of GLOSS Moderne Shares Her Beauty File
My Beauty File is an on-going series where we figure out what the most timeless, put-together and coolest ladies are doing—what their days look like, what they can’t live without—in hopes that we might learn a thing or two. Beauty Files are a quick and easy cheat-sheet on how these incredible ladies are becoming their best selves. Kuen Rameson was born in Seoul but grew up in Orange County. Like Robin Shobin, founder of CB, Kuen was a veteran of the financial space who was inspired to do what she loved. GLOSS Moderne, her luxury haircare line, was launched in 2011 and is now in stores like Sephora, SpaceNK, and Neiman Marcus. After reading her beauty file, we realized Kuen is a true "Charlotte" for us: not only is she an inspiration professionally, a working mom with two children, but she finds pleasure in self care and is a true vision of timeless living—she loves ritual when it comes to skincare and visits her esthetician loyally every three weeks. Best of all, Kuen's honest about everything and her happiness shows (it's all in the glow). Two things you might be surprised to learn from this Beauty File? Lemon-flavored fish oil works wonders on popcorn, and you can wash your hair every day—Kuen says so.
Morning Skincare:
I only rinse my face with both warm and cold water in the shower each morning. Afterward I use simple Evian water as my toner and then apply Natura Bisse eye cream with SPF and a bit of La Mer La Crème. Next I mix up a concoction of two pumps of La Mer reparative sunscreen, two pumps of Dior Dreamskin and just a tiny amount of Nars Orgasm Illuminator. That’s it!
Morning Breakfast:
I rarely eat breakfast… I love intermittent fasting and usually just have a liter or more of water and green tea (maybe adding a lemon/ginger shot but matcha is my favorite!).
Night Skincare:
In the evenings, I remove all my make-up by massaging coconut oil all over my face. It feels amazing and works so well. I’ll use some Chanel Sublimage cleanser, tone with Evian water and finish with Cle de Peau eye cream and La Mer La Crème. Super simple and quick—I like to do this right after dinner so I’m sure I won’t get too tired to adhere to my nighttime skincare routine!
Supplements:
Each day I take one SuperNutrition multivitamin along with RenewLife 50 billion probiotic. Several days a week I’ll also take the liquid Carlson lemon flavored fish oil and put some on a little of my favorite popcorn, Lesser Evil Organic Himalayan Pink Sweet & Salty made with coconut oil. It’s such a healthy treat and an easy way to actually enjoy taking my fish oil!
Fitness:
One of my favorite places is Equinox. I go there almost every day to work out. I love strength training mixed in with some yoga, a little cardio and lots of stretching/recovery work. I’ve had many trainers over the years who have taught me so much, and recently I hired a coach who combines nutrition + training which has been my favorite fitness experience since the two truly go hand in hand.
Tech:
My favorite apps are the Oprah & Deepak Meditation app (I use it daily), Find Friends (my children are now always running around with their friends or at the beach so this helps me keep track of everyone’s whereabouts), and YouTube (you truly can learn almost anything on YouTube).
Hair:
I love having freshly washed hair every single day. There’s a reason why the term “good hair day” exists, and I believe that should be every day. I used to be in the camp that claimed washing your hair every other day was better and healthier, but after I developed and created GLOSS Moderne (which is completely free of sulfates, sodium chloride, parabens, glutens, or phthalates—and it incorporates my beloved coconut oil and it’s even vegan), I realized this was just a myth. Our haircare products are so gentle yet efficacious that you can use it daily without any damage to your hair, and it truly helps preserve your hair color. Plus I feel like we all brush our teeth and shower every single day: shouldn’t we wash our hair daily too?!! Having really beautiful hair can be so easy if your hair is healthy. People always compliment me on my hair, and it’s truly so simple to have clean, healthy and beautiful hair each and every day.
Dermatologist Or Facialist:
I have been going to my dermatologist for over 15 years—Dr. Kathleen Hutton in Newport Beach. Kathy trained at Mayo Clinic and is the best. My esthetician is Tamme Smith at Dr. Milind Ambe’s office. Tamme does the best dermaplaning, microcurrent and light therapies. I’ve been seeing her every 3 weeks for over 10 years!
Wellness:
I really believe that wellness begins in your heart. If you’re a really good person, grateful for all that you have and kind to yourself, that is worth its weight in gold. I’m a big believer in buying everything organic, grass-fed, wild and as close to its natural state as possible. Taking good care of yourself inside and out, physically and mentally is a gift you can give yourself every day.
My Best Piece of Beauty Advice:
Find happiness. A happy person is a beautiful person. And treat yourself to the cleanest and most luxurious beauty products—the little daily experiences of taking care of yourself really can bring a little extra beauty to you both inside and out!
My Best Piece of Life Advice:
Enjoy it. Make your best life. Do things for yourself and for those who you care about that can brighten each and every day. Smile!
Biggest Beauty Myth:
That absolutely everything has to be super luxurious. I love mixing high and low. My shampoo might be $45 and my favorite hair masque is $65 but my toner is $2 and my makeup remover is $8. See what works best for you and be simple where it works and then indulge in the areas most important to you!
My Charlotte:
Anyone who is a mother: motherhood has taught me so much. The balancing act of bringing another person into this world and helping them grow while you grow yourself is truly something very special.
