Indie Beauty Expo Does It Again
Prepare yourselves, east coast beauty junkies! After a successful Indie Beauty Expo event in Los Angeles this past May (a mere eight months after the first-ever iBE here in New York), the massive display of independent beauty brands returns home to New York City on August 24 and 25 with so many beauty, wellness and lifestyle goodies it’ll make even the most jaded New Yorker leave with a sack full of serums.
Bigger, Better, And This Time—It's International
iBE was created to showcase, promote and celebrate independent beauty brands, and it seems a lot of people want in on the party. In just one year, iBE has added its second location in Los Angeles (a third location will be added in 2017) and extended the event from one to two days. The number of brands participating has more than doubled as well. This August, 150 brands (and counting) will take over New York City's 30,000 square foot Met Pavilion, including an eclectic roster of independent brands from around the globe. Alongside homegrown favorites like Ursa Major and Emmaus will be featured brands from Austria, Australia, South Africa, Singapore, and beyond. For many of these companies, iBE is their first chance to get their products in the hands of stateside buyers, press and consumers.
Learning Curve
The explosive growth of iBE can be attributed in part to the responsiveness of its team, led by co-founders Nader Naeymi-Rad and NYC facialist (and founder of her own eponymous skincare line) Jillian Wright. Jillian is also on the Charlotte's Book advisory board. Each event is used as a learning experience, informing and improving the next. “In L.A., we realized that the exhibitors were too busy at their booths during the expo to participate in panel discussions, so for NYC we’ve added a ‘Day Zero’, featuring educational panel discussions exclusively for exhibiting brands.” says Wright.
Shop Till You Drop
Not an exhibitor? Don’t worry. Wright and team have something very special in store for all you beauty and wellness obsessed consumers, too. iBE has always paid special attention to indie beauty consumers, providing them with the opportunity to shop the brands they love, as well as discover new brands to covet. On August 24 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm, the Indie Beauty Bazaar will take place—iBE’s not-to-be-missed beauty/lifestyle/wellness shopping soiree. Attendees can peruse one of the largest selections of face oils ever amassed under one roof as they enjoy a DJ, drinks, product discounts, a disco ball and flower wall (no need for Snapchat filters on your selfies tonight), a CAP Beauty Elixir Bar, panel discussions led by beauty & wellness industry leaders and much more. If you’re imagining some poorly lit trade show or frenzied sample sale in a bland white room, think again. iBE can be counted on to create a breathtaking event, and the Indie Beauty Bazaar promises to be a killer party: complete with serums, sheet masks and small batch soaps.
The Future of Indie Beauty
Just as indie beauty brands around the globe evolve and mature, so too will Indie Beauty Expo. Speaking to Wright about iBE’s future, you can’t help but get excited with her. “It has become so much more than the individual events,” says Wright. “It’s a growing community of like-minded individuals and companies facilitating education, supporting growth, creating partnerships and more.”
