Tea or coffee? Which is your drink of choice? I'm a fan of both, but in the mornings I'm definitely a coffee person, since tea tends to upset my empty stomach. Lately, though, I've been drinking a morning elixir that's not only amazingly healthy and filled with super spices, but it's also delicious. It's my own spin on wellness expert Erica Gragg's Rise and Shine Elixir. And it's tasty, soothing, good for you, and the best part: it takes only three minutes to make. Mornings are busy enough as it is, so I make sure to keep the ingredients I need for this elixir on hand.

For the Ultimate Morning Elixir, you'll need:

1/4 teaspoon organic turmeric powder (There are several great brands out there, including Feel Good Organics and Frontier Herb.) 1/4 teaspoon organic cayenne powder. 1/4 teaspoon organic ginger powder. (A pricey-but-worth-it option is the Wakaya Perfection Organic Pink Fijian Ginger Powder for those ginger junkies. Otherwise, Frontier is a great choice.) 1 tablespoon of MCT Oil (I love Sports Research's MCT Oil.) 1 tablespoon of manuka honey or locally produced honey (Wedderspoon is my favorite manuka honey) the juice of one lemon Optional 1 dropper-full of vitamin D 1 dropper-full of ashwaganda (for stress)

How I make the elixir:

As soon as I wake up, I heat up water. If you don't have an electric kettle, you're making your life harder than it needs to be. (This KitchenAid kettle is great. For something less expensive, this one from Hamilton Beach works great too. Just don't get a plastic one: they tend to break pretty easily.) I juice a lemon into my coffee mug and then add the ginger, cayenne, and turmeric. Next I add the MCT oil. If you prefer, you can substitute olive or argan oil. Since I like to take vitamin D and ashwagandha every day, I add them in too. (If you have other liquid supplements you take, feel free to add those in.) Then I fill my mug with hot water and mix in one tablespoon of honey. And that's it! A helpful tip: If you're buying bulk spices, keep small jars of them on your countertop. This will remind you to make your elixir each morning. Plus, they look pretty, too.
