The 25 and Done Method: How It Changed My Fitness Routine (And My Life)
Last summer, my life came to an abrupt halt. I thought I had it all — a dream job in New York City, an amazing boyfriend who loved traveling as much as I did, a sun-drenched apartment on the Upper East Side, and the quintessential NYC life so many dream of.
Then, it all came crashing down. Suddenly, I lost my job and received devastating personal news, both within a couple days of each other. I was crushed and didn't leave my bed for days. I cried uncontrollably and didn't eat. No matter how bright the sun shone every morning, my days seemed dark for weeks. I was lost.
"It was all I had in me, but all I really needed in the end."
Several days into this personal hell, I woke up hoping a little bit of exercise would help calm my mind and spirit. I didn't want a big gym with a lot of people or one of those "everyone's doing it" kind of atmospheres. I needed something small, unique, and accepting. So, I tried BodMod Fitness, a boutique-style fitness studio that offered 25-minute classes. After all, it would only be 25 minutes of my seemingly infinite days.
I showed up and with the last amount of energy I had, I did the class. Twenty five minutes and I felt good: "25 and done," as they like to say at BodMod. I came back the next day, for another 25 minutes. It was all I had in me, but all I really needed in the end. I was greeted with a smile, a towel, and a warm welcome. I felt at peace. This continued for the entire summer. It was easy, and I liked going. It started feeling like a community I wanted to be a part of.
"I had not only restored my confidence and spirit, but my body transformed, too."
Before I knew it, I had not only restored my confidence and spirit, but my body transformed, too. Ten months later, I've lost 14 pounds, gained muscle I never knew I had, and lost several inches all around. And to top it all off, I gained a support network of amazing, genuine people.
I was always the active girl who hated going to the gym, but now I look forward to my workouts. They're not only quick and efficient, but the instructors are top notch and make you feel like you're getting a personalized training session.
I am forever grateful for finding this Upper East Side neighborhood gem and my thoughts about working out have changed significantly. I've learned so much about my body and the journey of fitness that no matter where I work out now, I incorporate these valuable lessons and tools given to me at BodMod.
BodMod offers over 20 different 25-minute classes. To try one out, visit their website.
