The New Babyfacial by Drunk Elephant Is A Powerful Peel With Low pH, And It's Awesome
The new Drunk Elephant T.L.C Sukari Babyfacial is a pro-strength at-home peel that packs a punch, but without added skin irritation. If you're like me and prone to rosacea, breakouts, or anything really that disrupts that delicate balance of “my skin is in good shape right now," you're just as terrified to try something new or disrupt whatever I have going for fear of total skin chaos. I never have that fear with anything in the Drunk Elephant line because after spending some QT with Tiffany Masterson, I know she feels the very same way. Tiffany’s new peel is the perfect balance of power without irritation. But don’t just take our word for it: we caught up with skincare ingredient and product guru Jordana Mattioli to get her take on this new product, too.
A CLOSE LOOK AT THE INGREDIENT PROFILE
As with all Drunk Elephant products, Tiffany formulated the new T.L.C Sukari Babyfacial to be effective, but ok for those with sensitive skin. By honing in on the pH level of the product while also keeping a very high level of AHA, 25% to be exact, the new product manages a perfect balance. The 25% AHA and 2% BHA are mixed with tartaric, lactic, and citric acids; a blend of chickpea flour and pumpkin for extra brightening; matcha tea, milk thistle and apple for antioxidants, and niacinamide for an extra protective barrier. Jordana Mattioli, CB expert aesthetician puts it this way: “It's truly a perfect combo, I couldn't ask for a better formula. The blend of 25% of acids (glycolic, tartaric, lactic, citric) are at the right pH to exfoliate dead surface cells and the 2% Salicylic Acid is for exfoliating pores. There is also a pumpkin extract which is a natural enzyme, so between the acids and the enzyme, all skin types are covered! Another feature that sets this peel apart is the powerhouse of antioxidants and skin-soothing ingredients. Most at-home peels don't include such a universal formula. Lastly, it comes with a small dose of the Marula oil for a soothing treat afterwards. I'm super impressed!”
HOME PEELS vs. IN-OFFICE PEELS
We all know exfoliating is key for good skin, and as we age, our natural process of shedding skin slows. Doing a home peel or the occasional in-office peel is a great way to jump start this process. Jordana explains, “If you are happy with your skin, there is no need to do in-office peels, but you should still be exfoliating at home with a daily exfoliant or a weekly at-home peel. If you are trying to correct a specific issue (for example pigmentation) then start with at-home peels—you can always go stronger or get a faster result by doing an in-office peel. In the warmer months, cut back on any type of peel unless you are extremely diligent with your sun protection." Jordana adds, "If you are exfoliating daily or a few times a week with low strength acids, then an at-home peel can be done once or twice a month. If you lean towards sensitive skin, then I would recommend doing an at home peel once a week."
WHAT HAPPENED WHEN WE USED IT
After trying the new Drunk Elephant T.L.C Sukari Babyfacial, I am again convinced that Tiffany has formulated another go-to product that will remain in my vanity, despite whatever other products are making their way through. The cream-like product is easy to apply and stays put on your skin. I put it on 20 minutes before I jumped into the shower, and because it’s not drying like a mask, its easy to go about your morning. My skin felt refreshed and looked immediately brighter. Tiffany is always thinking outside the box and each peel even comes with her signature Marula oil to put on immediately after your treatment.
WHAT ABOUT MY SKIN TYPE?
Jordana explains, "All skin types can benefit! Dry skin will notice their hydration levels improve and oily skin will notice more balance." We're obsessed.
