I’d Buy It Again: Nucifera Balm Review
In our line of work, we try a lot of products: that means we know what we love, and why. I’d Buy It Again is a quick and dirty way to tell you about something we’ve tried and all the reasons we like it. These are never sponsored posts—only honest opinions inspired by our obsessions. Today, we're talking about The Balm by Nucifera.
WHAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE?
This is a perfect hydrating balm that you can use on anything from chapped lips, to dry skin patches, and even post-treatment skin. It's a lighter and more approachable formulation than most other coconut oil products I have tried. And it doesn't make me break out. Overall, it's a great multi-use product to have nearby when you need a boost of moisture.
WHAT IS THE BALM BY NUCIFERA?
Nucifera's The Balm is a multi-tasking balm formulated for all skin types. It can be used as a cleanser, makeup remover, lip balm, hair mask, body moisturizer, face moisturizer, or a multitude of other purposes.
WHAT’S THE STORY?
Meredith Baird is the author of four cookbooks: Raw Chocolate, Everyday Raw Detox, Plant Food, and most recently, Coconut Kitchen. Inspired by the versatile and beneficial properties of the coconut, she launched Nucifera.
WHAT'S IN IT?
Nucifera's The Balm is made of: organic coconut oil, kokum butter, avocado oil, borage oil, mango butter, moringa oil, and an essential oil blend of lavender, peppermint, grapefruit, carrot seed, sandalwood, palo santo, patchouli, and frankincense.
HOW DOES IT SMELL?
It doesn't smell like anything! I was worried it would smell coconut-y; I hate coconut smells. I don't like feeling like I'm putting on Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen. But this is very benign.
HOW DO I USE IT?
Nucifera's The Balm is truly designed to be multi-use. I keep my tub next to my bed to use as a super hydrating lip balm at night. I also dab it around my eyes (the crow's feet area), or on any particularly dry patches of skin. I dab some on my cuticles as well. New York winters are so cold and dry (and the apartment heating doesn't help), so this gives a much-needed boost of moisture. I love layering on extra moisture over face oils and night creams for a nighttime hydration supercharge. Also, if I've had a laser treatment (or anything else that makes my skin uber sensitive or dry) I use this. Personally, it's too heavy for me to use as a cleanser. But it takes off makeup great after a night out.
HOW LONG DID I TEST IT FOR?
Four weeks and going strong! I suspect this tub will last a long time.
WORKS WELL WITH?
Nighttime creams and serums. I like to layer the Nucifera Balm over eye creams or other lip products at night for a hydration boost.
WHAT DO I LIKE ABOUT IT?
The texture of the product is light and easy to use. And it really helps restore dry areas. I'd been scared to try coconut oil products due to their heaviness, but this one is definitely light enough.
I have combination skin so I'm naturally oily but with dry patches as well (fun!). So for me, this is a bit too shiny to use during the day, but it's great at night.
WOULD I BUY THIS AGAIN?
Yes! But I think the tub I have will last forever.
WHERE CAN YOU BUY IT?
