Review: EO Ageless Skincare Makes Winter Bearable
Winter sucks. But somehow, the EO Ageless Skincare line seems designed to combat some of the toughest cold-weather skincare woes—it's not for truly sub-zero temperatures, but it'll do, especially for winter's so-far-mostly-mild-crossing-our-fingers-weather. The line, which was released last year around this time, comes from EO (Essential Oils), the same company that released the first all-natural sanitizer for Whole Foods. They also created a line called Everyone, also for Whole Foods, designed for everyday, all-family use—this new effort is decidedly too wonderful for the whole family; it's the kind of thing you'll want to keep for yourself. The line includes organic, all-natural, and GMO-free ingredients, all of them with recognizable names. All-told, the bottles contain over 80 active botanicals. Everything is made in EO's certified-organic facility Marin County, California. Here's what I tried:
1. Hydrating Face Moisturizer, $35
The featured ingredients here are snow algae and tsubaki oil—snow algae seems so perfect for this time of year because, well, it was born for this: it's an "extremophile" found in the Swiss Alps, which means it withstands intense weather conditions and it has been clinically proven to stimulate collagen production, improve hydration and smooth wrinkles. The other featured ingredient, tsubaki oil, is known as the "Rose of Winter", and it comes from the Japanese Camellia tree. It soothes skin and diminishes signs of aging. The texture of this cream is incredible, not too thick and not too light, and the scent is fantastic. It was especially perfect for my combination skin, which is tough to handle in the dryer winter weather.
2. Organic Argan Face Oil, $22
Here, the star ingredients are two tried-and-true skin and haircare friends, argan oil and vitamin E. It's all-organic and super-light, absorbing really quickly. With lavender, grapefruit, geranium, rosemary, and vetiver, it smells light and herbacious. My skin didn't play well with this oil, getting a bit red whenever I used it in the morning, but EO also recommends using this oil for your cuticles. It's perfect for that.
3. Transformative Night Serum, $40
This was the hidden gem: luxurious and amazingly effective. I used it every night and woke up with glowing, rosy skin. This one has tsubaki oil too, doing a great job with fine lines, plus meadowfoam, macadamia, hemp, sunflower, and carrot seed oils; a deeply moisturizing, antioxidant-rich mix. Moringa oil, which we love, also makes an appearance. It's not completely organic, but it comes as close as possible.
4. Moroccan Lava Clay Exfoliating Scrub, $22
We've heard about papaya before—but then, Irina Shayk was eating it. Here, EO blends it with pineapple, oat kernel flour, coconut, vanilla, and Moroccan lava clay for a satisfying scrub and masque blend. The papaya and pineapple enzymes effectively deep clean pores, while oat kernel gently scrubs. It comes with a tiny spoon, which is sort of pointless: I just tapped the powder into my hand. I love the simple formulation and the choose-your-own quantity, and it exfoliates without leaving that tight feeling—perfect for winter. -Photographed by Lewis Feuer
