The Detoxifying, Hydrating Charlotte's Book Summer Cocktail
Can a cocktail detox, hydrate, and promote digestion on top of getting you to that perfect post-work plateau of buzzing relaxation? We think so. Robin Shobin, founder of Charlotte's Book, created this summer cocktail with the idea that drinking in the summer isn't something to avoid: it's something to enjoy. Dry gin offers an herbaceous base, coconut water hydrates (and it's packed with potassium), lemon juice detoxifies while adding that sour punch, and grated ginger settles the stomach. So what's stopping you?
GIN & GINGER COCONUT TONIC
1 1/2 ounces dry gin
1 1/2 ounces pure coconut water
4-5 Slices freshly grated ginger
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
Stir together gin, coconut water (extra hydration while you imbibe), lemon juice (detoxifies), and ginger (helps with digestion). For an extra kick, try stirring everything with a few slices of jalapeño—but take it out before you drink! Pour over ice, or serve up. Serves one.
