Kylie Jenner's Lip Fillers Are Gone. A CB Expert Weighs In
What's been the big beauty trend the last few years? Luscious lips. The perfect, plump pout. Overlined. Overstated. You get the picture. And Kylie Jenner has been at the forefront of the very-full-lips craze, after starting lip injections when she was just 16 years old. She even inspired a "Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge" a couple of years ago. (Need we mention that it's not a good idea to try it?) Her signature pout also led to Kylie Cosmetics, which has been made popular by its Lip Kits. So things took an unexpected turn when the world learned that Kylie no longer has lip fillers. (!) On Sunday, Kylie posted a picture on Instagram with friend Anastasia Karanikolaou, and her followers noticed something looked a little different. One fan commented on the image, saying "she looks like the old Kylie here..." To that, Kylie responded that she'd gotten rid of all her filler.

This is pretty big news from the now 20-year-old, who's on her way to becoming the youngest self-made billionaire. After all, Kylie has played a big part in inspiring young women to cosmetically enhance their lips and not be shy about it. So what does Kylie going back to her natural lips mean for the full-lip trend? We talked to CB expert dermatologist Dr. Amanda Doyle of Russak Dermatology to get her thoughts on Kylie's decision and explain how fillers are removed.
First of all, what kind of filler is used on lips?
At Russak, we use hyaluronic acid-based filler for the softest and most natural look. It's also flexible: if a patient wants to change their aesthetic, they can, as Kylie did.
How do you dissolve lip filler?
It depends on what kind of filler is injected. If you're using only a hyaluronic acid-based filler—which is a natural component found within the skin—a dissolving solution can remove volume. (You can also let fillers dissolve naturally, and just choose not to get another treatment.)
What are your thoughts on Kylie removing her filler?
Looks and aesthetics are very individual. Clearly Kylie's aesthetics have evolved and she's tending toward a more natural look, which is what we aim to achieve at our practice. We want results that look natural so patients feel youthful and refreshed but still themselves. Kylie is embodying this and her current look complements her features well!
Will this change affect cosmetic beauty trends?
Yes, Kylie is certainly a trendsetter. She's a major social influencer and recognized for her impact on the world of beauty. Have you seen her on the cover of the new Forbes?
So there you have it! As Dr. Doyle said, Kylie's influence might just lead us into an era of less dramatic lips. She's not the only expert who thinks so, either. Dr. Nick Milojevic told Harper's Bazaar UK that we should expect a shift in the lip trend. "2019 will definitely see a more natural lip that aligns with the other features of the face and not over-dominate the face," he said.
